Bio

My short stories and essays have appeared in Catapult, Colorado Review, Portland Review, Los Angeles Review of BooksNinth Letter, The Iowa Review and Witness. You can find links to my work over on the Writings page. I completed my MFA in creative writing at the Ohio State University and earned my PhD in English at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 2013, I was awarded a Fulbright grant to Japan, where I did research on the 2011 Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. In April 2020, my book When the Waves Came was published by Chin Music Press. I am currently based in Tokyo and serve as a visiting assistant professor in the Faculty of Law at Keio University’s Hiyoshi Campus. In 2020 I was awarded a research fellowship by the Japan Association for the Promotion of Science.
